I’ve recently stepped on a new path.
I’m not entirely sure where it will lead me, but it feels right. And I’ve found that that’s the most important thing about any path: that it feels right.
The feeling of a particular way not feeling right can be called Resistance. It’s as if there’re many boulders on the path, or that its surface is covered in gloop. Trying to climb over boulders on such a path is often dispiriting and exhausting, and stepping on the gloop all the time tests your patience.
But when a way feels right, there’re still boulders along the way, of course, but now they’re easier to climb over, simply because you want to climb over them. And the gloop is still there, but now you know how to walk around it – or you’ve simply accepted it as part of the path, and you don’t mind because the path feels right.
So what is this new path I’m on?
Narration and voiceover
In retrospect it seems like it should’ve been an obvious step to make, having done videos for my YouTube channel Tales & Meditations, but it was far from obvious to me (as obvious things usually are).
It took a good friend, who’s a full-time narrator and voiceover actress (click here to visit her website), to hear my voice when we were talking on Zoom (we were using audio only because the wifi connection wasn’t good). She said: “Have you ever thought about going into narration and voiceover work?”
My answer, quite simply, was: “No. Not really.”
But I felt that delicious thing called curiosity, and so started to do my research. I took my friend’s advice and joined the amazing community at VO Kickstart, and now I’m pretty much hooked.
My voice has been described as:
- Gentle
- Friendly
- Approachable
- Down to earth
- Calm
- Natural
- Honest
- Youthful
I’m keen to do voice-over work for apps, commercials, corporate videos, e-learning, games, short stories, and I’m certain there’re more avenues I’ve missed.
Here’s a sample of a commercial I recorded:
If you think my voice would suit your project, then please get in touch.
