The Fire (100-Word Non-Fiction)

Nursery.

You were all sitting on the floor, in a poking, shuffling, unkempt circle.

There had to have been a teacher present, but you don’t remember one. As far as you’re concerned it was just you and the rest of the kids.

Sirens caught your attention like no teacher could.

You all ran to the window, just in time to see two fire engines hurling down the street.

The boy next to you said how cool it was.

Little did he know that when it was time to go home there would be no home for him to go to.
